The Overstory

marymadeline2000

This book is a one-of-a-kind read, where it walks the line of many different genres. It's no wonder that it was the winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 2019. If you have an interest in science, history, romance, fiction, non-fiction........ anything really, I'm sure you will find a liking to this novel. The author, Richard Powers, connects the story of 9 characters whom all live in various geographical locations and ties it in with one common theme. Any guesses on what that might be? You probably guessed it, trees/nature! What I find the most interesting about this book is that although it has a modern flare, it too reminds me of a novel written by Dickens. It's quite refreshing. I will suggest while reading this book to really unplug and focus on the text. It is text heavy. Also, it may start off a bit slow at first but I promise it gets better. I challenge you to read this book and take in all that it has to offer. Put yourself out of your comfort zone and try something new. After you've read it, I would love to hear your thoughts about the book and how you view certain things after.
