August
August. The number eight. The month of endings and new beginnings. The month where the morning air slowly begins to crisp and the leaves on the trees live their last glory days of being green. Schedules and new routines are put in place. A new cycle of life begins and ends simultaneously........
August. It’s my favorite month of the year, and no it isn't because of Taylor Swift’s song “august” however that makes it all that much better. I spend my last moments of summer sitting on my back porch watching fireflies glisten around me waiting until there’s a bite to the air and I get to throw on my favorite raggedy navy blue “kale” sweatshirt. Normally I would be forcing myself to go to sleep earlier to adapt to my new school routine, but I just recently graduated from college. Don’t worry, I have applied to many jobs however I haven’t received one offer or interview for that matter. It’s okay though, I get to live in the moment with my random jobs and practice my trades all the while living during this new season of life.

August. The last official month of summer before there are no more late-night swims, the last month I’ll refill my vase with my weekly gardenias from Trader Joe's, the last time Country Crock lemonade will fully satisfy and quench my thirst, and the last month I’ll ride around with the windows down and rooftop wide open listening to sweet summertime country music. There are many things that I’ll miss but things I’ll look forward to. Each Sunday I take a specific route to church so I can drive through and look at the trees that arc over the road. I love to watch the rays of the sun shine through the branches, lighting the path ahead of me. Each time I drive through I notice how the leaves have changed, but now they are slowly dying. The ends of each leaf are turning brown, orange, or yellow. Though it is sad to say that they are dying or for better words aging, I can’t wait to enjoy the new colors of fall. I can’t wait to see how the sun will illuminate each leaf and its vibrant color.
August. My sister was born on the 13th. Once upon a time she used to be the biggest pain in my ass…and don’t worry she is from time to time, but over the years we have kindled a newfound relationship. It’s a lot less broken and agitated than it used to be, but I blame it on the fact that we were angsty teenagers. While she is a fiery, fearsome one to behold, she is too full of emotion and compassion. She loves THE DRAMA, and you will never be bored. She also loves to make others around her happy whether that be her singing to others, playing the piano, her dark humor jokes, doing your makeup and hair, or being down to do anything anytime anyplace.........
august. a month of endings and new beginnings. my sister’s birth month. chasing down the last warm days of summer. last days of late-night swims. rolling down the windows of your car blaring your summertime favorites. the excitement and anticipation of looking forward to a new season of life and the season of autumn. august.
